about

PETRINA OLIVE OIL

PETRINA WHITE BOTTLE.webp

PETRINA extra virgin olive oil is imported directly from the village of Petrina, Greece.

This extra virgin olive oil is obtained from Koroneiki olives that grow in the village of Petrina in the Laconia prefecture. This beautiful village has the perfect weather conditions for cultivating olive trees – the sunny weather helps the town's olive trees produce around 300 tons of extra virgin olive oil each year.

The process of producing Petrina olive oil begins with the careful cultivation of the olives. The trees are grown in the mineral-rich soil of Petrina and are tended to by experienced farmers who use traditional methods passed down through generations. The olives are hand-picked at the peak of ripeness to ensure the highest quality oil.

Once the olives are harvested, they are immediately taken to the mill for cold-pressing. This process involves crushing the olives and extracting the oil without the use of heat or chemicals. This results in a pure, unrefined oil that preserves the natural flavors and nutrients of the olives.

Petrina color is yellowish-green, depending on how ripe the olives are when harvested. The flavor is slightly bitter, and it is usually described as having a sweet flavour and a hint of sourness that decreases as the oil ages. Its fruity smell is most intense when the oil is fresh.

Petrina olive oil is known for its high levels of monounsaturated fats and antioxidants, which have been linked to a variety of health benefits such as reducing the risk of heart disease and cancer.

It also has a high smoke point, making it suitable for high-heat cooking methods such as frying and sautéing.

In terms of flavor, Petrina olive oil has a strong, fruity taste with a hint of bitterness and a slightly pungent aftertaste. It is often used as a finishing oil, drizzled over dishes such as pasta, seafood, and salads to add a bold, flavorful touch.

Overall, Petrina olive oil is a high-quality, healthy, and flavorful oil that is well-suited for a variety of culinary applications. It is a true representation of the rich history and culture of the region of Petrina, Greece and is a must-try for any olive oil enthusiast.
